Frequently Asked Questions
Ingredient related questions
All of the ingredients are fairly common, readily available, and can be found in most grocery stores. See the next two questions for information about protein powder.
The Keto Dessert Cookbook 1.0 and The Keto Dessert eCookbook 2.0 do not require any protein powder.
Some of the recipes in the new hardcover cookbook use protein powder, but many of the recipes do not require any protein powder.
Most of the recipes in the Healthy Series eBooks require protein powder. The protein powder can be omitted from the frosting recipes in all eBooks, as well as from the cookie recipes in The Healthy Cookie eCookbook. Omitting the protein called for in the cake, donut, and brownie recipes will affect the texture, so I cannot guarantee the results if the protein powder is omitted.
I prefer to use a naturally sweetened, lactose-free, sugar-free whey protein isolate in the recipes. I am currently testing out different brands to find the best brand to use and recommend to you! In the meantime, any whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate, or a whey + casein blend should work well in the recipes. Depending how sweet and/or flavorful the protein powder you use is, you may have to adjust the amount of sweetener used in the recipe to your taste.
If you are unable to consume dairy products, I recommend using a brown rice/pea protein blend. The texture/flavor of the recipes may be slightly different (usually denser) but still delicious in my opinion.
If you prefer not to use protein powder, I recommend checking out the Keto Dessert Cookbook 1.0 and The Keto Dessert eCookbook 2.0, as they do not use any protein powder, or my hardcover cookbook.
I am located in the US, but from my experience so far, I know that people have purchased the eBooks from many different countries and have not had trouble making the recipes. I made an effort to use widely available ingredients and there is also a substitution section included at the beginning of all the eBooks with options for substituting the ingredients just in case there is something you do not have.
In The Healthy Series eBooks, you can find ingredients such as gluten-free flour, oats, protein powder, applesauce, coconut oil, nut butters, natural unrefined sweeteners, cocoa powder, yogurt (or dairy-free alternative), chocolate (see the next question for chocolate recommendations), salt/baking soda/baking powder etc.
In The Keto Dessert eBook 1.0 and 2.0, you will find commonly used keto-friendly baking ingredients, such as almond flour, coconut flour, sugar-free sweetener (you may use any kind you prefer - I recommend Lakanto classic and powdered sweeteners, you can use code SARAH for 20% off), sugar-free chocolate chips, as well as more common baking ingredients such as cocoa powder, eggs, butter, cream cheese, etc.
There is also an ingredient guide included in each eBook and in the hardcover cookbook explaining all of the ingredients and possible substitutions.
Nope! All of the recipes in my eBooks are made from scratch and do not require any pre-made mixes. However, if you ever don't feel like baking from scratch, definitely check out my product line at www.shopfitbake.com!
I enjoy using Choc Zero (sugar-free, sweetened with monk fruit - you can use code SARAH for 10% off at www.choczero.com), Lily's Sweets Chocolate (sugar-free, stevia-sweetened) and Enjoy Life Foods chocolate (allergen-free). You may use any chocolate that you prefer in the recipes.
No. Only natural, unrefined sweeteners are used in the recipes. My favorite sugar-free sweetener is Lakanto, and comes in classic, powdered, and a baking blend formulation. It is a combination of erythritol and monk fruit. I use this sweetener in all of my keto recipes. You can use code SARAH for 20% off the entire Lakanto website. The Healthy Series eBooks also use some maple syrup and coconut sugar, which are natural, unrefined sweeteners.
Yes! Choc Zero: SARAH for 10% off at www.choczero.com (sugar-free chocolate & syrups) Lakanto Sweeteners: SARAH for 20% off at www.lakanto.com
(my favorite sugar-free sweeteners) Banza Pasta: SARAH for 20% off at www.eatbanza.com
(my favorite high-protein, gluten-free pasta)
Allergen related questions
Yes, all of the recipes are gluten-free.
Yes, many of them are. All of the recipes in the cake, cookie, and donut cookbooks are egg-free. Almost all of the recipes in the brownie cookbook are egg-free, aside from two of the bonus recipes. Please see below for details about dairy ingredients.
Many of the recipes in The Keto Dessert eBook 1.0 and The Keto Dessert eBook 2.0 require eggs, so they may not be optimal for a vegan diet.
Many of the recipes in The Healthy Series eBooks use whey protein powder. Whey protein isolate is often lactose-free so it may be suitable for those who are lactose intolerant, but whey protein is derived from dairy, so it would not be suitable for those with a milk protein allergy. Dairy free alternatives can be substituted. For dairy-free protein powder, I recommend using a brown rice/pea protein blend. Some of the cake and frosting recipes use Greek yogurt or cream cheese. Dairy-free alternatives can be substituted. Simple instructions for how to make these substitutions are included in the eBooks.
The Keto Dessert eBook 1.0 and 2.0 do not use protein powder, so they are easier to make dairy-free with simple substitutions for butter and/or cream cheese.
Aside from coconut, most of the Healthy Series recipes are nut-free. There are nut-free substitutions suggested in the “Ingredients and Substitutions” sections at the beginning of each eBook for any recipes that call for nut ingredients.
Most people who are intolerant or allergic to nuts can eat coconut. If you don't like the flavor of coconut, don't worry: the use of coconut flour does not add a coconut flavor to these recipes.
The Keto Dessert eBook 1.0 requires almond flour in many of the recipes, so it is not as nut-free friendly. The Keto Dessert eBook 2.0 contains mostly almond-flour-free recipes, or recipes that can easily be modified to almond-flour-free, so it is very friendly for those with nut allergies (as long as you can have coconut flour).
Yes. None of the recipes contain any soy ingredients. Always make sure that the chocolate/chocolate chips you use are soy-free if you have an allergy, as many brands contain soy lecithin.
